B ampersand W owners group activities on Alloy 600 penetrations

Creators

Description

At the request of GPU Nuclear Corp., B ampersand W Nuclear Services reviewed all Inconel 600 applications in the RCS, provided a list of the nickel based alloys applications in the RCS, reviewed stress reports, and identified code stresses calculated in NI-base alloys used for structural components, and evaluated the effects of fabrication or site modification on susceptibility to PWSCC. The B ampersand W Owners Group reviewed Inconel 600 steam generator tubing and plugs for elevated pH chemistry control, developed a list of failed tubing and plugs, and determined the metallurgical condition of the plugs, both as-received and after fabrication and installation. They recommeded initiation of a corrosion testing program for Inconel 600 material components and development of a program for inspecting and/or replacing susceptible parts if the corrosion qualification testing is not performed before increasing the pH
