Experience in the fabrication of fuel bundles for the Garigliano Power Plant and their performance in operation

  • 1. Fabbricazioni Nucleari, Boscomarengo, Italy
  • 2. Ente Nazionale per l'Energia Elettrica, Rome (Italy)

Description

The paper shows how both the adoption of a quality system, like the one implemented at Fabbricazioni Nucleari SpA, and modifications to technical specifications brought about remarkable improvement in the performance of fuel in the Garigliano Power Plant. The performance of fuel in the Garigliano nuclear reactor is shown from the starting of the plant operation to now. The paper points out that no failures were disclosed by the unloaded fuel fabricated in accordance with the new specifications and with the implementation by Fabbricazioni Nucleari SpA of a quality system which is in line with the 10 CFR 50 Appendix B. The new technical specifications are described in detail and some indications on the quality system and on the preconditioning of fuel during operation are given. (author)
