Carbon detection by proton backscattering

  • 1. Hiroshima Univ., Higashi-Hiroshima (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

A sensitive method for carbon detection in the thin films and the bulk materials is presented. By using 12C(p, p) 12C resonant scattering with 1.74MeV protons and the elastic recoil detection (ERD) analysis, several types of hydrocarbons have been analyzed. Also 1.6MeV protons were used to determine the composition of TiCX and VCX bulk samples. The obtained compositions were compared with the results from 4He ion backscattering and Bragg's rule for stopping cross sections. (author)
