A rapid paper electrophoretic separation for short-lived bromine in fission products

Description
A rapid chemical separation of short-lived bromine in fission products was performed within 20 s by electrophoresis. The separation procedure with the specially designed apparatus was described in detail. As a supporting electrolyte, a 10-2 M sulphurous acid solution (pH = 1.9) was used for the electrophoresis. The radiochemical purity and chemical forms of bromine thus separated were checked using the long-lived nuclides. Half-lives and gamma-ray energies of 84--88Br obtained by gamma-ray spectroscopy were compared with the published data. (author)
