Influence of stresses and impurities on the swelling and microstructure of irradiated nickel

Description

The effects of stress and impurities on the swelling of neutron irradiated nickel at 3500C have been studied. Under 10 MPa the increase in swelling is very clear. Impurities play a complex role since they delay the effect of stress on swelling. The irradiation of nickel and binary alloys with 1 MeV electrons shows that the impurities studied, which reduce swelling, do not modify the migration energy of the voids but increase the density of the dislocations

Abstract (French)

Les effets de la contrainte et des impuretes sur le gonflement du nickel irradie aux neutrons a 3500C ont ete etudies. Sous 10 MPa l'augmentation du gonflement est tres nette. Les impuretes ont un role complexe car elles retardent l'effet de la contrainte sur le gonflement. L'irradiation de nickel et d'alliages binaires aux electrons de 1MeV montrent que les impuretes etudiees qui diminuent le gonflement ne modifient pas l'energie de migration des lacunes mais interviennent par une augmentation de la densite des dislocations
