Based on many references of cold neutron sources (CNS) all over the world, an analysis for the application and its development is done, and a comparison of various moderator fluids and phases, different refrigeration cycles and pre-cooling methods are conducted. The cruxes of constructing a CNS are pointed out according to the experience
