Production of J (psi) in pp scattering

  • 1. Lyman Laboratory of Physics, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts 02138

Description

The hypothesis of a heavy-quark--antiquark meson (orthocharmonium) for the 3.1-GeV resonance leads, in the context of a general peripheral model, to predictions for the cross sections (and their energy dependence) for J (psi) production. The p/sub perpendicular/ dependence is predicted to be quite different from that of the pion. At higher energies, charmed particles are expected to be produced in conjunction with each J (psi). Related problems are discussed
