Description
Purpose: To improve the integrity and the reliability of neutron absorbers and increase the working life of control rods. Constitution: Long-life type short neutron absorbers are divided along the axial direction of a control rod and absorbers on the final divisional end are disposed as short and light weight material abutting against long neutron absorbers. With such a constitution, gaps formed between the long neutron absorbers and long-life type neutron absorbers for absorbing the change in the length accompanying the irradiation growing are removed and, as a result, swelling in the neutron absorbing materials filled in the long neutron absorbers are effectively retained to reduce the possibility of fuel can rupture due to the swelling. Thus, the integrity and the reliability of the long neutron absorbers can be improved. (Kamimura, M.)
