Description
A summary is given of the programme carried out by Westinghouse since 1992 to put into service over 30,000 laser welded sleeves on steam generator tubes in six reactors in the USA. The most ambitious project was at Maine Yankee where 16,722 sleeves were installed. The other reactors were Doel 3 and 4, Farley 1 and 2 and Byron 1. Excellent performance is reported for the welded sleeves. At Byron 1, an infrared weld monitoring system was successfully employed in this field for the first time. (UK)
