Structure and strength of TiB2 - CrB2 and TiB2W2B5 composite ceramics produced by hot pressing

Description
Structure of composite ceramic TiB2-CrB2 and TiB2-W2B5 were investigated and structure dependencies of their hardness and strength were analyzed in the work.It was found that 1) in quasi-binar systems TiB2-W2B5 and TiB2-CrB2 , the predominant phase has TiB2-structure under solid solution occurrence; 2) variation of anisotropic lattice parameter a and c under solid solution (Ti, W)B2 occurrence may be caused by competing influence between tungsten atoms and the excess of boron atoms in solid solution; 3) increasing temperature of hot pressing leading to formation of single-phase solid solution resulted in more dense ceramic materials, but did not provides optimal strength properties
