Observations of the aurora in the far ultraviolet from 'Cosmos-900'

Description
A description is presented of observational data of auroral emissions in the wavelength range from 115 to 135 nm. The data were obtained with the aid of the satellite Cosmos-900, which was launched on March 30, 1977 to an almost circular polar orbit at an altitude of 500 km and an inclination of 83 deg. The emissions recorded by the ionization chamber could be caused by Lyman-alpha emission, the nitrogen line at 120 nm, the triplet of oxygen emissions at 130.4 nm, and molecular nitrogen band emissions. Graphs are provided showing the data obtained on September 20, and on September 22, 1977
