Effect of hydropressing parameters Nb-Ti alloy phase composition

Description

The effect of pressure on the phase composition of the Nb-50-60% Ti alloy is investigated. The samples have been subjected to the effect of hydrostatic pressure up to 30 kbar in a container with the following deformation using the method of hydropressing. The application of high pressure up to 30 kbar is shown to bring about the increase of the α-phase quantity in the Nb-Ti alloy from approximately 3 to approximately 11%. Such alteration of the phase composition can be conditioned both by the presence of diffusionless transformations and due to component redistribution under the effect of high pressure. Heat treatment at 375 deg C during 1 hour contributes to the change of the phase composition of the Nb-Ti alloy, bringing about the decrease of the α-phase quantity. The non-monotonous nature of the α-phase dependence on the deformation degree with the method of hydropressing is conditioned by the thermal effect which can transform the above alloy in a single-phase region of the state diagram
