Description

A mechanism of the conversion of helicon waves into electrostatic waves arising from a redundant plasma polarization at the boundary with a nonconducting wall, or at a steep density gradient is analyzed. The effective collision frequency caused by this mechanism for helicon waves and the plasma loading resistance introduced in the driving antenna circuit of the helicon plasma source are calculated proceeding from semi qualitative arguments.Theoretical results are shown to be in a good qualitative and qualitative agreement with experimental data
