Reduced partition function ratios of titanium, zirconium, and hafnium compounds

  • 1. Tokyo Inst. of Tech. (Japan). Research Lab. of Nuclear Reactor

Description

The reduced partition function ratios for some compounds of titanium, zirconium, and hafnium were calculated as functions of temperature using the general valence force (GVF) field. The contribution of each normal vibrational frequency to the reduced partition function ratios was evaluated. The magnitudes of reduced partition function ratios of titanium, zirconium, and hafnium compounds at 300K were found to be in the following sequences, respectively. TiO44- > TiF4 > TiCl4 > TiBr4 > TiI4 > TiO > TiCl, ZrO44- > ZrBr4 > ZrCl4 > ZrI4 > ZrO, HfO44- > HfCl4 > HfBr4 > ZrI4. The values of the reduced partition function ratios were discussed with those of the octahedral molecules reported previously. (author)
