Search for superheavy elements in uranium minerals using K X-ray fluorescence analysis
Description
Selected uranium mineral joints having high uranium contents (40 to 80%) were irradiated with 279.2 keV γ-rays from a 203Hg source, and an attempt was made to observe fluorescent K X-rays of superheavy elements. An upper limit of 1 ppm was obtained for the concentration of each of the elements Z = 121 to 127 in uranium. It is suggested that another version of the present method be applied to a study of gianthalo inclusions in which K X-rays of superheavy elements could more likely be observed. (author)
