RA-3 reactor power increase to 10 MW
Creators

Description
The RA-3, a multi-purpose research reactor designed by Argentina in the 1960s to operate at a power of 3 MW, had since undergone several changes to fulfil the ever-growing needs of its users (such as in the late 1980s when the core was converted and allowed the power to increase to 5 MW). The growing demand for the production of radioisotopes fostered a project to increase the power of the reactor RA-3 to 10 MW. The paper describes the implementation of this project. Addressed are engineering and licensing aspects, in particular modifications introduced, reactor commissioning, and benefits gained. (author)
