Scavenging of electrons by metal tetrasulfophthalocyanines in liquid and frozen glasses

Description

The rate constants of reactions between metal (Co II, Rh III, Cu II, Ni II and Mn II) tetrasulfophthalocyanines (Mtspcn-) and solvated electrons (e-s) have been measured by pulse radiolysis in aqueous methanol solutions. The measured rate constants equal to 0.8-1.8x1010 M-1 s-1 weakly depend on the kind of metal: the high reactivity is strongly connected with the double nitrogen ring characteristic for metal phthalocyanines. The effectivity of electron scavenging by Mtspcn- have also been measured in the frozen systems: ethylene glycol:water:magnesium chloride or lithium chloride. The frozen thin plates were gamma-irradiated and bleached with light. The differential spectra of irradiated and nonirradiated samples were used to determine the efficiency of electron scavenging: high electron scavenging efficiencies were found
