A clinical review on dose response in radiotherapy for laryngeal carcinoma

One hundred and fifty consecutive patients with laryngeal carcinoma treated primarily by radiotherapy have been studied with a computerized data retrieval system to reveal the dose response in relation to local control of the primary tumor. Part 1 is a review of the literature with respect to TNM classifications, pre-invasive and invasive carcinomas, other prognestic factors such as sex and host immune defence, complications and voice of the treated patients. In part 2, the patient material of the study, the policy of treatment, the technique, the dose and the results are presented with relevant comments and discussions. Finally, a modified tumor classification is proposed to obtain homogeneous subgroups for further dose response studies.
