URAGAN-2 proton accelerator for applied duty

  • 1. Moskovskij Inzhenerno-Fizicheskij Inst., Moscow (USSR)

Description

The results of starting the URAGAN-2 HF linear accelerator of protons with phase-variable focusing designed for carrying out works on ion implantation are presented. Main accelerator parameters are as follows: injection energy is 30 keV, output energy is 500 keV, pulse current of protons at output is 1.2 mA, duty factor is 400, power of HF-supply is 28 kW, the area occupied by the accelerator is 10 m2. A duoplasmatron is used as a source of ions. The accelerating system represents the H-resonator with opposit pins. The proper frequency of the resonator is 150 MHz. Shunt resistance is 130 MOhm/m. When choosing the parameters of a transport channel calculational ratios of the phase-variable focusing theory based on the spectral representation of HF-field in the region of interaction have been used. The maximum value of the electric field intensity on the axis of the transport channel is restricted by 80 kV/m. An autogenerator representing a self-oscillation system with external feedback through the resonator and phase-shifter is used as a system of HF power supply. To stabilize HF-fields passive methods based on the choice of the circuit parameters and conditions of transmitting tube operation are taken. 4 refs.; 2 figs.; 1 tab
