The scattering of electromagnetic waves in an inhomogeneous plasma in the presence of a lower hybrid pump wave

Description

The scattering of electromagnetic waves by turbulent fluctuations in a magnetized inhomogeneous plasma in the presence of an external pump field in the region of lower hybrid resonance frequencies is investigated. On the base of the theory of kinetic fluctuations, the spectral density of electron-density fluctuations in the presence of a parametric instability is calculated. It is shown that the Raman scattering of electromagnetic waves by electron-drift fluctuations gives a main contribution to the cross section. We obtain an expression for the differential scattering cross section when the electric field intensity exceeds the instability threshold. The scattering cross-section dependence on the pump wave's amplitude, frequency, and density gradient is found.
