Description
Objective: It is a study of the radionuclide bone scan in the postoperative follow-up of patients with esophagus carcinoma and an investigation of the peak period of the postoperative bone metastasis. Method: In total 116 patients were divided into 2 groups according to whether the follow-up was longer than 12 months. The radionuclide bone scan was performed in all the patients and the results were investigated. Result: In the group with follow-up longer than 12 months, positive rate was 38.24%, while the positive rate was 14.58% in the group with follow-up longer than 12 months. Postoperative bone metastases was found in 48.28% cases of the adenocarcinoma, and 21.83% cases of squamous carcinoma. Conclusion: Radionuclide bone scan is a useful modality in the follow-up of the cases of the esophageal carcinoma after the primary tumor is removed. The positive rate of the scan seems related to the duration of the follow-up and the pathology of the tumor
