On interaction in systems based on intermediate europium- and niobium oxides

Description
The interaction between europium oxide EuO, strontium oxide SrO and niobium oxides NbO, NbO2 and Nb2O5 in vacuum 1.33x10-3 Pa at 1100-1300 deg C is studied by the X-ray diffraction technique. It is shown, that certain individual compounds and the phase of variable composition, based on europium-, strontium monooxides and NbO and NbO2, described in the literature, are identified erroneously. Actually, due to a high tendency of the intermediate niobium oxides to disproportionation reactions in these cases the formation of europium (4, 5) niobates takes place with isolation of NbO or metal niobium as by-products
