A procedure for purification of liquid radioactive wastes containing detergents and radionuclides from the uranium decay series

Description
For its purification, the liquid radioactive waste is made acid with H2SO4 to pH<5, and a solution of a barium salt and a solution of an iron(III) salt are added in volumes such that the amounts of the barium and iron ions are 1-100 and 40-1000 mg/l of the liquid waste, respectively. The waste is then made alkaline to pH>10.5 with calcium hydroxide, and the precipitate formed is separated off. (P.A.)
