The odderon versus a new threshold - implications for experiments and from confinement in QCD

Description

It is shown that a 'new threshold' model, with a threshold at √S ∝ 500 GeV, is compatible with all elastic scattering data. This implies that an odderon is not necessarily required by current experimental results. It is also argued that there is no forward odderon in QCD when confinement is taken into account. There is an odderon in SU(N) gauge theory for N ≥ 4. (orig.)
