A rapid method to simulate exploration for hydrocarbons

Description

A probabilistic sampling without replacement model is described that represent the process of exploration for oil and gas. Until now, very lengthy simulations have been required to use this model to forecast the value and the standard deviation of the volume of discoveries due to a given exploratory effort. The paper describes the model and its use (example of canadian sites), and discusses a very rapid, but surprisingly accurate approximation for such forecasts
