Titanium and nitrogen solubility in Fe-Ni system

  • 1. Kurganskij Mashinostroitel'nyj Inst. (USSR)

Description

The conditions of the formation of titanium nitrides in Fe-Ni-Ti melts have been analyzed with allowance made for assymetrical properties in the Fe-Ni system. With increasing nickel concentration in the melt, the conditions for the formation of titanium nitrides deteriorate which is due to the strengthening of the titanium bond in the melt. In melts containing more than 50% of Ni and ordinary concentrations of titanium and nitrogen, the formation of titanium nitrides in liquid metal is hardly probable. Non-metal inclusions formed in the process of ingot crystallization can dissociate during remelting. The calculations have shown that inclusions 14-15 mkm in size dissolve completely on the film of the electrode consumed. The final content of nitrogen in the metal after remelting is determined, evidently, by nitrogen permeability of the slag
