Application of differential thermal analysis to the study of trapped intermediates produced in simple organic glasses by gamma radiolysis. Spectrophotometric investigations of electron trapping and photobleaching in 3-methylpentane and methyltetrahydrofuran glasses

Description

Gamma radiolysis of simple organic glasses such as 3-methylpentane (3MP) and 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (MTHF) at low temperatures produces trapped electrons (e-/sub t/), radicals and molecular ions. The knowledge of these intermediates and of the trapping matrices was extended by spectrophotometric measurements and by differential thermal analysis (DTA), a technique heretofore not applied to the study of radiation processes in simple organic glasses.
