Activation and passivation of zirconium by electrochemical treatment in aqueous and non-aqueous chloride solutions

Description
Factors affecting activation and passivation of zirconium in aqueous, alcohol and formamide solutions of chlorides were studied by the method of recording the polarization curves to determine optimal conditions and media for electrochemical treatment of zirconium. Mechanism of anodic dissolution of zirconium in the media and the role of intermediate valency particles in the process are considered. The results obtained permitted suggesting and validating aqueous chloride-nitrate electrolyte for electrochemical dimensional machining of zirconium and chloride electrolyte on formamide basis for electrochemical polishing of zirconium
Abstract (Russian)
Методом регистрации поляризационных кривых изучены факторы, влияющие на активацию и пассивацию циркония в водных, спиртовых и формамидных растворах хлоридов, с целью определения оптимальных условий и сред для проведения электрохимической обработки циркония. Рассмотрен механизм анодного растворения циркония в таких средах и роль частиц промежуточной валентности в этом процессе. На основе полученных результатов предложен и успешно опробован водный хлоридно-нитратный электролит для размерной электрохимической обработки циркония и хлоридный электролит на основе формамида для электрохимического полирования цирконияAdditional details
