Description

The International Organization of Atomic Energy is an autonomous member among the organizations of the United Nations. Its statute was approved on October 23, 1956, at the United Nations Headquarters, in New York. The Organization was constituted on July 29, 1957, on which date the statute came into force. The objectives of the Organization, according to those defined in its Statute, are to try to speed up and increase the contribution of atomic energy to peace, welfare, and prosperity in the world. To make sure that all the assistance provided, directly or indirectly, under its administration and control should not contribute to reach any military goals, if possible
