Magnetic properties of R2BaNiO5 Haldane spin chains
Description
The magnetic properties of the Ni spin chain compounds R2BaNiO5 (R=Gd, Dy, Yb) were investigated by means of Moessbauer spectroscopy and neutron diffraction . The data provide the size and direction of the R magnetic moments and an estimate of the second order CEF parameters. The T-dependence of sublattice magnetizations are discussed in the context of the 'Haldane chain in a staggered field' model (Yokoo et al., Phys. Rev. B 58 (1998) 14424)
