Dry separation process for actinide removal from PUREX waste

  • 1. Boeing North American, Rocketdyne Div., Canoga Park, CA (United States)

Description

A dry separation process is being developed for the recovery of actinides from PUREX wastes. This paper describes results from the development of reductive extraction and electrorefining processes to separate actinides from noble metal, rare earth and alkaline earth fission products. The objectives are to remove 99% of each actinide from PUREX wastes, with a product that is >90% actinides. Test results indicate that process objectives can be satisfied. (author)
