Oscillator strengths and transition probabilities of pseudoresonance lines
Description
The pseudoresonance absorption lines of O I, O II, O III, N I, N II, C II, S II, S III, Al II, and Si III are investigated theoretically, applying single-configuration and intermediate-coupling approximations, analytic radial orbitals, and the numerical algorithms of Kupliausken and Tutlis (1982) to the electric-dipole transitions. The oscillator strengths and transition probabilities are presented in tables and compared with the results of Nussbaumer and Storey (1981) and Griem (1964) where applicable. The discrepancies (30-50 percent and almost an order of magnitude, respectively) are attributed to the neglect of correlation effects in the present method in the first case and to the crudeness of the Bates-Darmgaard method used by Griem in the second. These pseudorandom lines are of interest for the physics of planetary nebulae, and some have been observed in the spectra of quasars, eclipsing-binary envelopes, or the extended envelopes of hot stars
