Japan's energy policy; break from frailty

For putting the energy policy in Japan on the right track, the international energy situation must be grasped. Then, it is necessary to set up appropriate targets concerning energy savings and supplies. The energy demands and supplies in both intermediate and long terms were examined on the basis of the international energy situation, which is new less stringent, and on variety of predictions. For the energy policy in the future, the following measures are to be taken. (1) Energy saving: this is done while fulfilling social requirements. (2) Utilization of domestic resources: As such, there are principally coal and hydraulic power. (3) Economic and technical aids to overseas countries: These can lead to the stabilized energy supplies. (4) Stockpiling of energy supplies: This is required to the temporary stoppage of energy supplies. (5) Location of energy facilities and others: Governmental measures are especially necessary.
