Proton lifetime and branching ratios in SU(5)

Description
The decay rate of the proton into two-body channels is calculated in the SU(5) grand unified theory using the hadronic wavefunctions of the bag model. Summing only the two-body modes leads to a lifetime of tausub(p) = 8 x 1030 yr, for a heavy boson mass of 3.8 x 1014 GeV. (orig.)
