Demand for electrical energy
Description
The different utilizations of electric energy are reviewed in the residential and tertiary sectors, in the industry. The competitive position of electricity in regard to other fuels has been strengthned by the sudden rise in the price of oil in 1973-1974 and 1979-1980. The evolution of electricity prices depended on the steps taken to adjust the electricity generation system. The substitution of electricity applications for hydro-carbons is an essential point of energy policy. The adjustment at all times, at least cost and most reliability, of the supply of electricity to the demand for it is a major problem in the design and operation of electric systems. National demand for power at a given moment is extremely diversified. Electricity consumption presents daily and seasonal variations, and variations according to the different sectors. Forecasting power requirements is for any decision on operation or investment relating to an electrical system. Load management is desirable (prices according to the customers, optional tariffs for ''peak-day withdrawal''). To conclude, prospects for increased electricity consumption are discussed

On passe en revue les differentes utilisations de l'energie electrique aussi bien dans les secteurs residentiel et tertiaire que dans l'industrie. La position competitive de l'electricite face aux autres energies s'est renforcee a la suite des augmentations brutales en 1973-1974 et en 1979-1980, des produits petroliers. L'evolution du prix de l'electricite a ete fonction de la readaptation vers d'autres energies. La substitution de l'electricite aux hydrocarbures est un enjeu essentiel de la politique energetique. L'adaptation de l'offre et de la demande d'electricite est le probleme majeur qui se pose tant au niveau de la conception qu'a celui de l'exploitation des systemes electriques. La demande de puissance au niveau national, a un instant donne, est tres variee. La consommation d'electricite presente des modulations journalieres et saisonnieres, des variations selon les secteurs. La prevision des besoins en puissance est essentielle a toute decision d'exploitation ou d'investissement. Une regulation de la courbe de charge est souhaitable (mise en place de differents tarifs selon les consommateurs, tarifs optionnels ''effacement jours de pointe'').
