Observation of the hyperfine polarization and alignment in the alignment in the spin-exchange collisions of polarized Cs and Rb atoms

Description

It was established in experiments on the optical orientation of Cs atoms in a Cs-Rb mixture that the initiation of magnetic resonance in the ground state of Cs atoms results in a resonance change of the absorption of a linearly polarized light of the Rb lamp by the Rb atoms. This shows that the hyperfine polarization left-angle S · I right-angle and the alignment left-angle Q right-angle of the Rb atoms are induced by the spin-exchange collisions between Rb and Cs. 2 refs., 1 fig
