Waste retrieval during and after disposal

Creators

Description

The regulatory requirements for disposal of radioactive waste specify that the present generation must meet its responsibilities to future generations by ensuring the long-term safety of its disposal methods. Disposal, in this context, does not include the need to retrieve the waste at a later time and it has been on this basis that waste management has been determined. However, in response to public concern that the process should be seen to be reversible, Nirex has demonstrated by current studies that retrieval is feasible, both during and after disposal.
