Kinetic theory of waves and instabilities in an homogeneous plasma
Creators
Description
A general dispersion equation describing the electromagnetic wave propagation at an arbitrary angle to a homogeneous magnetic field in a plasma with an arbitrary equilibrium gyrotropic distribution function is obtained on the base of Maxwell equations. The Newcomb theorem is given which discloses that equilibria with a monotonous distribution function are stable relative to small electromagnetic perturbations of an arbitrary polarization. Particular cases of kinetic modes and instabilities are investigated
