Bremsstrahlung production and photofission studies using variable energy microtron

  • 1. Microtron Centre, Mangalore University, Mangalagangotri (India)

Description

In spite of the advantages mentioned of using photons to excite the compound nucleus, studies reported in literature on photon-induced fission are sparse. This is due to the difficulty of producing intense mono-energetic real photons of variable energy. Therefore, investigations on photofission using Bremsstrahlung radiations from 8/12 MeV Variable Energy Microtron is undertaken in order to study angular distribution of fission fragments, variation of anisotropy with energy and photofission cross-section. Research experiments have been started initially with a theoretical as well as experimental study on Bremsstrahlung radiation. The results of this study were taken as reference for conducting photofission experiments using 232Th fission target
