Characteristics in bone densitometry. ISCD recommendations on X-ray bone densitometry

X-ray bone densitometry (DXA) represents one of the non-invasive, patient-friendly methods for the mineral content measurement in a certain area or volume of the bone for osteoporosis diagnostic purposes and or risk estimation of fractures. The good densitometric practice should include assessment of the measurement accuracy and precision as a warranty for the timely recognition and assessment of the disease and particularly important for the monitoring and assessment of its development as well as for the choice of the adequate therapy. The ISCD recommendations particularly for the quality control in DXA bone densitometry are considered in detail. (author)
