Choice of materials for condenser tubes on sea side
Description
EDF choice of titanium for condenser tubes in coastal nuclear power plants dates from the 1970s. However, this choice is now being debated for cost reasons. A series of investigations was undertaken to reduce the tube wall thickness, intended to save 12% of tube cost. Another alternative consists of using ferrous materials to replace titanium. Steel 29-4C (29 Cr-6 Mo) was selected and the Cordemais-5 600 MW condenser will be equipped with tubes in this grade

Le choice du titane par EDF pour les tubes de condenseurs en bord de mer remonte aux annees 1970. Pour des raisons economiques, il doit etre actuellement remis en question. Une serie d'etudes a ete entreprise en vue de reduire l'epaisseur de paroi des tubes. Cette solution permet de gagner 12% sur le prix des tubes. Une autre solution consiste a rechercher des materiaux ferreux permettant de remplacer le titane. C'est l'acier 29-4C (29Cr-6Mo) qui a ete retenu et le condenseur 600MW de Cordemais-5 sera equipe de tubes dans cette nuanceAdditional details
