Description

A brief survey is presented of the most important uranium supplying counties in the USA listing the total production of U3O8 to 1977 and the year when uranium mining started to be significant. Important deposits, their geological characteristics and total production to 1977 are shown for each county. Epigenic infiltration deposits in classical rocks represent the main areas of uranium production in the USA totalling about 70% of reserves. The vein deposits share of the production is about 3%; they represent about 3 to 4% of reserves. U-Th polymictic conglomerates are found in the Deep Lake formation area. Forecasts are presented of the uranium demand in the USA upto the year 2000. Potential uranium sources are briefly discussed. (B.S.)
