Characteristics of the multiplicity distributions of the secondary π-mesons formed in single nucleon and many nucleon proton interactions with carbon and tantalum nuclei at 2-10 GeV/c momenta

Experimental results are presented for the multiplicity distributions of the secondary π-mesons formed in single and many nucleon proton interactions with carbon and tantalum nuclei at 2-10 GeV/c momenta. The comparison of the higher moments of the experimental multiplicity distributions with the corresponding characteristics of the Poisson distribution has shown that they are different. Though statistically significant, the observed deviations in the momentum range are not very Large. In nucleus-nucleus interaction, however, the superposition of these deviations may give rise to considerable ultimate effects
