Radiation Quality and Quality Factor

Creators

  • 1. Columbia Univ., New York (USA). Radiological Research Lab.

Description

Basic considerations indicate that the quality factor employed in radiation protection should not be based on LET but on lineal energy as corrected for saturation effects. The numerical relation proposed results in a sharp increase of the quality factor to take account of wide variations in effectiveness of the various ionizing radiations at doses and dose rates that are of primary concern in radiation protection
