Aerosol composition and its application in air pollution monitoring. Appendix 10
- 1. Environmental Assessment Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India)
Description
Air particulate matter was sampled in two size ranges, 2-10 μm and < 2.0 μm and characterised using nuclear and nuclear-related techniques. The analytical procedures used are briefly discussed. Results of analysis of aerosol samples collected at an urban residential area showed very large dust loads in both size ranges during most of the year except, during monsoon season. Chemical composition of PM-10 indicates mostly soil and marine origin elements accounting for 11-22 % of the total mass. Toxic elements As, Sb, Hg, are in the range of 5-10 ng m-3 in < 2. 0 μm size whereas Pb is ∼0.35 μg m-3. Results of elemental emission profile were obtained by burning different domestic fuels in specially built oven and results are presented. (author)
