Measurement of pressure drop in spacer grid of the type used in the Angra-1 reload fuel assembly

Description

This work is intended to present results and analysis of experimental investigation conducted in the CT-1 loop of CDTN, in order to determine pressure drop characteristics of spacer grid of the type used in the Angra-1 reload fuel assembly. A total of 109 tests were performed on an unheated 5x5 rod bundle test section, covering the Reynolds number range from 1,4x104 to 2,0x105. Six spacer grids identical to those ones designed for the reload fuel assembly were used, five of them located at equidistant elevations along the test section length. Relationships were established for predicting the function factor, the spacer loss coefficient and the efective loss coefficient including both the friction and the spacer grid components. (author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Apresentam-se os resultados e analise de testes realizados no Circuito Termico N0 1 (CT-1) do CDTN, com a finalidade de se determinarem as caracteristicas de queda de pressao em grades espacadoras do tipo usado no elemento combustivel de recarga de Angra-1. Foram realizados 109 testes isotermicos em um feixe de 5x5 varetas, com dimensoes tipicas do elemento combustivel, cobrindo a faixa de numeros de Reynolds entre 1,4x104 e 2,0x105. Ao longo do feixe foram posicionadas seis grades espacadoras identicas aquelas projetadas para o elemento combustivel de recarga. Estabeleceram-se correlacoes em funcao do numero de Reynolds para o fator de friccao, coeficiente de perda de carga nas grades espacadoras e coeficiente efetivo de perda de carga, que inclui o efeito do atrito e das grades espacadoras.
