Differential thermal analysis for gamma-irradiated muscovite mica

  • 1. Radiation Center of Osaka Prefecture, Sakai (Japan)

Description

High gamma doses produce various changes in thermal properties of muscovite mica. Results of differential thermal analysis for muscovite mica which was previously exposed to 60Co gamma rays ranging from 9.0 x 102 to 9.1 x 103 Mrad are presented. The differential thermal curves show a single endothermic peak below 10000C. Increasing gamma dose increases the temperature at the start of the endothermic reaction from 7700C to 8550C. The peak height and its sharpness are increased with increasing gamma dose. The results are discussed from the point of view of understanding the mechanism of ''mica dosimeter''. (author)
