Strangelet mass formula and its implications to the solar-neutrino problem

  • 1. The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH 43210

Description

We develop a mass formula for strangelets by extenting the Fermi-gas formula of Berger and Jaffe with an inclusion of shell corrections in order to study reaction networks of strangelets. The results reveal a striking similarity between certain light strangelets and hypothetical ''Q-nuclei,'' suggesting that the solar-neutrino problem (and some other problems) of the standard solar model might be solved if a tiny amount (∼10/sup -14/ per normal nucleus) of low-Z strangelets existed in the Sun
