Description

The dichroic properties with magnetic dipolar transitions caused by occupation of rare earth ions (Er sup(+3) in sites of C sub(3) symmetry in LiNbO sub(3) crystal lattice are analysed. The absorption spectra were measured at room temperature and 77 K using the Cary-17 spectrophotometer and α polarization. The emission spectra were measured at room temperature using an arrangement constructed in the laboratory with σ and π polarizations. Argon laser was used for bombardment. (M.C.K.)
