The temperature coefficient of electrical resistance of cerium up to 15 kbar at 300 K

  • 1. Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, 92 - Meudon-Bellevue (France)

Description

The temperature coefficient of electrical resistance, β = (delta lnR/deltaT) p, of cerium has been determined under hydrostatic pressure up to 15 kbar at 300 K. In the γ phase, β varies little with pressure between 0 and 7 kbar. Between 7 kbar in the γ phase and 10 kbar in the α phase it increases by a factor of approximately 5.5. In the α phase it decreases with a decreasing rate with pressure. In the immediate vicinity of the γ-α transition β increases in both phases. All these features of the β(p) curve are shown to be consistent with the predictions of the virtual bound state model. (author)
